Getting to the Treetop Walk Bavarian Forest by car or coach

It’s quick and easy to get to the Treetop Walk Bavarian Forest by car or coach
from the motorway.

Via the A3 from Nuremberg/Regensburg:

• On the A3 towards Nuremberg/Regensburg, take exit 111 for Hengersberg/Grafenau.

• Turn right on the B533 towards Grafenau, and follow signs for Nationalpark as far as Grafenau. 

• From there, continue to Neuschönau - approx. 0.5 km after passing through Neuschönau, you will reach car park P1 and, 
immediately adjacent, the entrance to the treetop walk.

Via the A3 from Linz/Passau:

• On the A3 towards Linz/Passau, take exit 111 for Hengersberg/Grafenau.

• Turn right on the B533 towards Grafenau, and follow signs for Nationalpark as far as Grafenau.

• From there, continue to Neuschönau - approx. 0.5 km after passing through Neuschönau, you will reach car park P1 and, 
immediately adjacent, the entrance to the treetop walk.

Via the A92 from Munich:

• Coming from Munich on the A92, follow signs for Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald Rachel – Lusen at the Deggendorf motorway Junction
 and exit towards A3 Linz/Passau.

• Then, following the A3 towards Linz/Passau, take exit 111 for Hengersberg/Grafenau.

• Turn right on the B533 towards Grafenau, and follow signs for Nationalpark as far as Grafenau. 

• From there, continue to Neuschönau - approx. 0.5 km after passing through Neuschönau, you will reach car park P1 and, 
immediately adjacent, the entrance to the treetop walk.

Coming from the Czech Republic:

From the Czech Republic, the treetop walk can be reached via the Bayerisch Eisenstein or Philippsreut border crossings.

Coming from Pilsen/Klattau:

• Coming from Pilsen/Klattau, take the E53/S27 towards Bayerisch Eisenstein. 

• Then, continue on the B11 as far as Zwiesel, then follow Frauenau, Spiegelau.

• Then, follow signs for Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald Rachel – Lusen. 

Coming from Prague:

• Take the D4 from Prague, Strakonitz, Tabor and Pisek. 

• Stay on the D4 until you reach the Philippsreut border crossing. 

• Shortly before Philippsreut, turn off towards Mauth and follow signs to Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald Rachel – Lusen. 

• After approx. 13 km, shortly before reaching Neuschönau, you will reach the Visitor Centre car park.

Coming from Budweis:

• Coming from Budweis, drive towards the Philippsreut border crossing. 

• Shortly before reaching Philippsreut, turn off towards Mauth and follow signs to Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald Rachel – Lusen. 

• After approx. 13 km, shortly before reaching Neuschönau, you will reach the Visitor Centre car park.

• From Philippsreut and Spiegelau, the access road to the treetop walk is signposted in addition to the National Park.

Parking for cars

Paid car parks P1 and P2 right by the treetop walk:

Paid car parks P4 and P5 are about 10 minutes away on foot:

Parking costs 2 euro (day ticket).

Please note that car parks P4 and P5 are only open from April to October.

Paid car parks P6 and P7 are about 30 minutes away on foot:

Parking costs 2 euro (day ticket).

Free parking is available in car parks P6 and P7, about 30 minutes away on foot. 


Free car park Graupsäge - Igel bus stop

Free parking is available at the Graupsäge overflow car park (Igel bus stop). 

From there, you can also easily take public transport to the treetop walk.

Parking for mobile homes

Parking for mobile homes - P5:

In the summer months from April to October, car park P5 - Thaddeus is available for mobile homes. A day ticket costs 2.00 euro.

In the winter months, mobile homes can use car park P1. Parking for mobile homes costs the same as for cars.

For cars and mobile homes:

• Free exit within the first 20 minutes 

• Parking charged between 8am and 7pm

• Parking allowed until 10pm

• Overnight parking is not allowed in the car parks (as they are within the National Park Zone)

Please pay for your parking at the pay station after your visit, which is located by the Info Pavilion in the car park.

If required, you can print out a separate receipt for the bus parking charge at the pay Station.

Free parking for buses - P8:

Buses can park free of charge in bus park Altschönau P8. The bus park is located about 30 minutes away from the treetop walk on foot. 

However, parking on roadsides is strictly forbidden for safety reasons. 

Please follow the directions on the signs.

Getting to the Treetop Walk Bavarian Forest by public transport

In many cases, you’ll be more mobile by bus and train than if you come by car - transfer if possible. 
We advise you to travel by public transport.
In this way you’ll make a contribution to environmental protection in the National Park region. 

You’ll also receive a discount of € 1.00 on the ticket price upon presentation 
of a valid public transport ticket. 

Travelling to the Treetop Walk Bavarian Forest with the RBO-Igel buses is convenient, 
cost-effective and environmentally friendly, wherever you are coming from.

Free within the Bayerwald-Ticket tariff zone with the GUTi Visitor Service 

"Guti" is Bavarian for sweets, and is also considered a small reward. 
The region has a very special treat in store for holidaying visitors:

the Visitor Service Environment Ticket (GUTi) offers free travel on all buses 
and on the forest railway around the National Park - for an unlimited number of trips 
(excluding Bayerwald-Ticket-PLUS and use of the "Green Buses" adjacent to the territory 
of the Šumava National Park in the Czech Republic). 

Free travel throughout a network of over 1100 kilometres.

The GUTi Visitor Ticket, in a practical credit-card format, 
is available to all visitors in the participating municipalities from their accommodation.
